Katie Frame, a Pennsylvania resident, is confident that her dog Bear loves her even though he cannot see. Despite his blindness, she can feel his affection when he rests his large head on her lap, cuddles with her on the couch, or gazes up at her with loving eyes. Although Bear is cherished by most of his peers, he has not always had it easy. One day, while playing with his siblings in Trenton, New Jersey, he was struck by a car at the age of one. The driver fled the scene, leaving Bear severely injured in a gas station parking lot. Katie described his appearance as resembling something out of a gruesome horror film.
Bear was immediately taken to the nearest animal hospital, which luckily was managed by Katie’s mother. Although his owner was contacted, they decided to leave him at the hospital when they saw the extent of his injuries. Bear was confined to a cage for three whole days and had to undergo surgery to remove his damaged eyes due to the severity of the injury. Katie’s mother couldn’t bear to see the dog suffer, especially after learning that he was left behind by everyone he knew. Despite the dilemma of taking in a disabled dog, they eventually decided to give Bear a home.
After learning about Bear’s situation, Katie and her friend decided to provide shelter for the homeless man. Fortunately, Katie’s beloved pet puppy returned home after receiving the necessary medical care. Despite the struggles he faced, the puppy exuded happiness and kindness towards everyone he met. Once Bear’s health issues were addressed, Katie and her family were pleased to discover a loving individual behind the facade. His blindness did not seem to hinder him in any way, as he behaved just like any other regular dog.
Katie shared that having a dog without eyesight was not much different from having a regular one. Despite occasional challenges, the dog had mentally mapped the entire house and navigated it with ease beyond expectations. The dog, named Bear, enjoyed walks, playing with his beloved ball, and spending time with the family’s golden retriever, Reese. He had a habit of jumping on people to give them a kiss when they met him for the first time, thanks to his exceptional hearing. Although Bear had helped the Frame family, Katie felt that he had helped her even more. He had brought meaning to her life and inspired her to be more active. Caring for Bear had taught Katie to work with creatures with unique needs. According to her, love is an emotion and not something you can see, and Bear demonstrated that sight is not crucial to enjoying life’s finer things. She urged everyone to learn about Bean, the extraordinary dog that had made a significant difference in her life.
