Kelly O’Connell had her dream wedding in Colorado, and it was made even more special by her beloved dog, Charlie, who was carried down the aisle by her maid of honor. Charlie was a 15-year-old black lab mix and had been diagnosed with a brain tumor five months before the ceremony. He hobbled down the grassy aisle but was unable to stand up and follow his owner after the ceremony began. So, O’Connell’s sister scooped him up and placed him in front of O’Connell and her new husband. Charlie died nine days after the wedding, but O’Connell is happy he was able to be a part of her special day. O’Connell adopted Charlie, who was abandoned in a shopping cart outside a grocery store when she was only 19. She describes Charlie as “super high energy” and they ran together almost every day. Charlie’s condition worsened a little over a week after the wedding, and the owners were forced to put him down.
